Release notes

What changed between versions

A plain-language history of the Research Dashboard. Each release explains what changed from the version before it, with emphasis on features and behaviour rather than implementation details.

v0.1.0-beta.5 "Red Raven"

Previous beta24 Sep 2026

What changed since beta.4

Red Raven extends yearly work analytics with top-activity and FTE-equivalent measures, while hardening large work-session datasets and dependency security.

Dashboard analytics

  • Added five compact yearly top-activity cards beneath Major activity distribution, ranking Hours activity labels by recorded non-Break time.
  • Added FTE-equivalent estimates beneath each top activity using a 40-hour week, with the current-year 2,080-hour reference prorated through the current day and completed years using the full annual denominator.

Reliability

  • Paginated yearly work-session reads in Hours and Dashboard analytics so datasets above Supabase’s 1,000-row response limit remain complete.
  • Used deterministic work-session ordering across pagination batches to prevent late-day sessions from disappearing as the dataset grows.

Security and maintenance

  • Upgraded Next.js from 16.3.2 to exactly pinned 16.3.6 for GHSA-vcvr-r3jv-pc5j / CVE-2026-94545 after confirming the Dashboard does not use the affected Node.js next/og ImageResponse path.
  • Updated the transitive ESLint development dependency js-yaml from 4.3.1 to 4.3.2 to resolve GHSA-2883-xcg3-v3hh and clear the remaining npm audit finding.

v0.1.0-beta.4 "Golden Vale"

27 Aug 2026

What changed since beta.3

Golden Vale improves list navigation and yearly research analytics, while refining activity classification, dashboard presentation and local development configuration.

Development and configuration

  • Corrected local Supabase Auth redirect configuration so localhost and 127.0.0.1 development URLs use HTTP consistently.
  • Updated the application release identity to v0.1.0-beta.4 "Golden Vale".

Release notes

  • Added release-date metadata to release notes and displayed each date as a compact tag alongside release status.

Navigation

  • Simplified the authenticated navbar by removing the separate profile-name label and showing the signed-in account name directly on the Account button.

Papers and authors

  • Added pagination to the Papers list with 10 papers per page while preserving search, status, archive and sort selections across pages.
  • Added pagination to the Author Directory with 10 authors per page.
  • Added Author Directory ordering by alphabetical name or by number of associated papers.
  • Refined the Dashboard research-pipeline ranking after dated milestones to prioritise Revise round, Writing, Under review, then all other statuses.

Hours and Dashboard analytics

  • Added owner-managed major activity classification for Hours labels: Research, Teaching, Administration and Outreach, with Break sessions assigned to Breaks automatically.
  • Added a yearly major-activity pie chart to Cross-module analytics, positioned between the activity heatmap and Citation yield.
  • Kept existing unclassified historical activity visible as a separate warning rather than assigning categories automatically.
  • Compacted the major-activity control within Hours activity-label cards and added a small confirmation notice after a classification is saved.
  • Refined the major-activity chart palette with pastel tomato for Research, blue for Teaching, softer Administration tones, gold Outreach and green Breaks.
  • Added the yearly total of recorded coffees and average coffees per working day beneath the major-activity distribution.
  • Moved the yearly Activity over time heatmap from Hours into Dashboard Cross-module analytics, between Monthly workload and Major activity distribution.

v0.1.0-beta.3 "Misty Delta"

26 Aug 2026

What changed since beta.2

Misty Delta turns the Research Dashboard from a single-user workspace into a controlled collaborative environment, while also improving Hours, Planning, paper workspaces and personal account management.

Collaboration and access

  • Added Viewer access for people who need to consult the dashboard without changing its data.
  • Added paper-specific Coauthor access so collaborators can work only on the papers assigned to them.
  • Viewer and Coauthor access can be combined: a collaborator can read the wider dashboard while editing only their assigned papers.
  • Added an Owner-only Access area for managing accounts, Viewer access and Coauthor paper assignments.
  • Added invitation and onboarding flows so new collaborators can create their account from an email invitation.
  • Added an Owner-visible access history covering invitations, Viewer permissions, Coauthor assignments and managed-account changes.

Personal accounts and security

  • Added a personal Account page where every signed-in user can update their display name, email address and password.
  • Added password recovery from the sign-in page.
  • Standardised new and changed passwords on a minimum of 10 characters.
  • Email changes use confirmation before the new address becomes the sign-in identity.
  • Improved account deletion so unused profiles are removed, while profiles needed for historical attribution are preserved.
  • Cancelled invitations now remove unused onboarding accounts automatically when one was already created.

Paper collaboration

  • Coauthors can update collaborative research content such as the full title, authors, abstract, venues, research links, milestones, presentations and notes.
  • Owner-controlled workflow fields such as status, revision round, dates, history, citations and archive state remain protected.
  • Archived papers remain visible to assigned Coauthors for reference but become read-only until restored.
  • Notes retain their original author, and coauthors can change only notes they created themselves.
  • Added an Author Directory for maintaining the canonical bibliographic names used across papers.
  • Added safe Markdown and LaTeX-style rendering for research text and notes.

Hours and Planning

  • Added managed location labels and a default location for new work sessions.
  • Improved the Hours layout and kept recorded coffee information visible in read-only mode.
  • Refined Planning terminology and presentation, including FlowSavvy/Calendar wording and a clearer period-load view.
  • Added shortcuts to standby papers and made existing planning allocations easier to move between periods.

Reliability and usability

  • Improved read-only behaviour so Viewer accounts cannot briefly see or use editing controls while a page loads.
  • Kept navigation, search, date selection and filtering available even when editing is disabled.
  • Separated personal account settings from Owner administration so users can manage their own credentials without receiving wider editing rights.
  • Corrected Hours system-label handling so collaborator accounts no longer receive Owner-only Break labels.
  • Removed unnecessary direct-table privileges and added active-account checks beneath the application interface.
